 2016 Preview

Geneva County finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-7 record. Last year Geneva County finished seventh in Class 2A region two with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Geneva County took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2010. The Bulldogs hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just two games which followed a 7-4 record in 2014.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Geneva County averaged scoring just 13.7 points a game.

Since 2010, Geneva County has gone a combined 35-30. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 2A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Geneva County has managed to compile a record of 141-129. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 2A and 169th in the AHSAA.

Eric Reynolds leaves the Geneva County football program after four seasons with a 26-17 record. Three of his squads reached the playoffs with a 2-3 record in the post season.

Jim Bob Striplin, a graduate of the school, takes over at Geneva County in 2016. He is a former head coach at New Brockton where his six teams went a combined 31-33 but 0-4 in the state playoffs.

He served as the offensive coordinator at Geneva the past two years.

Coach Striplin's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 31-33 (48.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Striplin's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

The Geneva County Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region two during the 2016 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Bulldogs if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. After just 2 wins last year, Geneva County will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

The Bulldogs open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Houston Academy on Friday, August 19 at Westgate Park. Last year the Houston Academy Raiders finished with an overall record of 4-5 and in fifth place in Class 2A region two.

Geneva County and Houston Academy have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 4-8-0 record against the Raiders. They last met in 2015 with Houston Academy winning by a score of 20-8.
